|
|
Green
University of Bangladesh is a one of the outstanding
center of excellence for higher education in Bangladesh. It is
engaged in the discovery of knowledge, the integration of
learning experiences, and their application through civic and
professional leadership. The mission
of Green University is to nurture and develop the talents and
potentials of students and to find out applicable knowledge in
order to support social and economic advancement.
1. The University offers
professionally oriented programs to provide students with
quality higher education of international standing.
2. The University strives to
create a learning ambience with diverse cultural backgrounds and
to enhance students’ acquisition of useful knowledge,
communicative skills and analytical abilities through innovative
pedagogy and a holistic learning environment. It values the
development of both an international outlook and a familiarity
with the Bangladeshi culture among students.
3. The University
anticipates and responds to the needs of industry, commerce and
the community by engaging in applied research, and uses the
results of such work to directly benefit Bangladesh and beyond.
The University concentrates resources to achieve excellence in
selected areas of research.
4. The University considers
research and teaching as inextricably linked. Research informs
teaching, which includes the provision of research opportunities
to our students so that they can contribute to the development
of the community.
5. The University enhances
its strength through pursuing collaboration in teaching and
research with other institutions of higher education.
6. The University encourages
staff and students to contribute to community service through
strong partnerships with Government, business, industry,
professional and other sectors of the community.

We seek to
have transformational impact on all who teach, learn,
discover and work here so they are prepared and engaged to serve
humanity. As a great University with emphasis on applied and
behavioral science, GUB must embrace responsible risk taking in
pursuit of bold aspirations for national and global leadership.
The University first opened its doors in 2002
with a very clear vision: to

Role Statement of the University |

The Green University of Bangladesh
(a) Offers a range
of professionally oriented programs leading to the award of
first degrees, and a small number of sub-degree programs;
(b) Pursues the delivery of
teaching at an internationally competitive level in all the
taught programs that it offers;
(c) Offers a number of taught
postgraduate programs and research postgraduate programs in
selected subject areas particularly in professional and applied
fields;
(d) Emphasizes
application-oriented teaching, professional education and
applied research;
(e) aims at being
internationally competitive in its areas of research strength;
(f) Emphasizes high
value-added educational programs for whole person development
and professional competencies and skills;
(g) Maintains strong links
with business, industry, professional sectors, employers as well
as the community;
(h) Pursues actively deep
collaboration in its areas of strength with other higher
education institutions in Bangladesh or the region or more
widely so as to enhance the Bangladesh higher education system;
(i) Encourages academic
staff to be engaged in public service, consultancy and
collaborative work with the private sector in areas where they
have special expertise, as part of the institution's general
collaboration with government, business and industry; and
(j) Manages in the most
effective and efficient way the public and private resources

Goal of the University |
|
The principal
goal of GUB is to provide quality education at undergraduate and
post-graduate levels relevant to the needs of a dynamic society.
The courses and curricula are so designed as to prepare the
students with sound academic background so that they can enter
into the competitive professional job market or can continue
further higher academic studies at home and abroad. The overall
academic goal at the University is to equip its students with
the means to become skilled and productive resources of the
community, so that they can provide leadership in the country’s
private and public sector enterprises in an increasingly
competitive and global environment.
University Goal #1:
To improve
educational opportunities that respond to the
intellectual and professional needs of the region,
- Maintain a
broad portfolio of master and bachelor programs;
- Increase
enrollment systematically to 15,000 students by the year 2010;
- Increase
continuing education particularly through innovative uses of
information technology;
- Use
effective review and assessment as the basis for program
improvement
- Foster
channels of communication to and from the community that
facilitate the integration of the University and its programs
into the life of the community.
- Develop
tuition and financial aid policies that support access and
affordability for the citizens of Bangladesh.
- Lead private
universities in the state in student retention and graduation
rates.
- Prepare
graduates to assume leadership roles in our communities, state
and nation.
- Assess
educational outcomes to improve the quality of student
learning.

Goal #2: To provide support for faculty and staff
development,
- Assist
faculty members in delivery of effective instruction to a
diverse student body, including those with differing
intellectual abilities, learning styles, personal
circumstances, levels of motivation, and academic preparation;
- Enhance
faculty effectiveness through assistance with the integration
of information technology into instruction, research and
creative efforts;
- Assist
faculty and staff members to serve as more knowledgeable and
effective academic advisors, especially with respect to
general degree requirements and campus-wide academic policies
and procedures;
- Assist staff
members in obtaining training necessary to ensure professional

Goal #3: To enhance student and community life,
- Implement
programs that integrate new students into the academic and
social structures of the campus;
- Expand
education abroad opportunities for students;
- Involve
students in activities and programs that promote healthy

quality entertainment through the Athletic Program;
- Enhance
student morale and pride in the University;
- Pursue joint
sponsorship of events with Alumni Association and other
organizations.

student activities and accomplishments through public

effectively manage facilities that enhance student learning
and development outside the classroom.

with the breadth and depth of knowledge and the intellectual and
professional skills that prepare them for a productive life in
an ever-changing world,

To enhance public
knowledge of the educational opportunities and services
provided by the University.
- Implement
cohesive, unified Web site design that communicates a clear,
consistent image of Green University of Bangladesh.
- Create and
produce visually appealing publications to communicate vital
information;
- Conduct a
comprehensive public relations program that utilizes
comprehensive media relationships, special events and public
speaking activities;
- Develop and
implement an image advertising campaign to build and create
awareness of those GUB services, capabilities and
contributions that enhance business and improve quality of
life in the country and region;
- Successfully
complete the philanthropic campaign;
- Continue to
educate constituents about GUB giving opportunities;
- Conduct
outreach events involving alumni to raise awareness and
interest in the opportunities and services provided by the
University;
- Communicate
the University’s crucial role in the region and state to
legislative, business, and local government leaders about
University needs and resources.

To increase both faculty and student research that
will address fundamental and regional problems,
- Expand
campus with physical and human infrastructure supportive of
research;
- Communicate
university research activities to the public to increase
understanding, enhance support, and facilitate the application
of the products of research.

national leadership in life science research.
- Enhance
interdisciplinary research and instructional programs.

Goal #8: To provide a variety of services
that respond to the ongoing and emerging regional needs,
- Increase
collaborative relationships with regional public, private and
non-profit institutions;
- Establish
web-based “one-stop help” for undergraduate student services
- Provide
services which impact positively the many challenges facing
the region, state, and nation by developing partnerships that
educate and provide research opportunities and which also
impact public policy, education, and ethical issues;
- Promote
relationships through public relations to strengthen existing
partnerships and develop new ones;
- Foster
lifelong relationships with alumni through the implementation
of cultural, athletic, and career-related program offerings,
including utilization of the new Alumni Center, connecting
alumni to the University and the community.
University Goal #9:
To increase the
physical and financial infrastructure as needed to
support the expanding educational, research, and service
activities of the University,
- Increase the
capacity of the University for increased enrollment through an
aggressive construction program;
- Increase the
infrastructure in support of technology;
- Develop
creative and entrepreneurial partnerships and programs which
help tackle space and financial issues unmet by state
appropriations;
- Increase the
amount of external funding;
- Maintain
sufficient controls to ensure effective and efficient use of
resources available to the University;
- Secure
gifts, pledges and donations of money that would support the
development of the campus infrastructure.
