STATUS OF GUB
Green University
of Bangladesh (GUB) is established under the private University Act
1992, as amended in 1998. GUB is a modern, dynamic and innovative
academy which provides state-of –the-art knowledge, skills and
attitude (KSA) in every branch of education. GUB strives to produce
professionals with self confidence, versatile skills and ethical
standards to meet the challenge of the corporate world and sow the
seeds of economic, spiritual and cultural growth.
Enterprising
Study
The development of the student’s independent problem
solving skills within the practice situation is an important
educational concept in the study programs taught at GUB. This
approach, also known as “Problem Based Learning” (PBL) and
“Case Based Learning” (CBL), involves the students to work
independently in small groups.
Class Rooms
The GUB class rooms are provided with modern as well as
comfortable furnishing. The class rooms accommodating 40 students
have already been arranged. These rooms are provided with (i)
Over-head Projectors & Screens, (ii) Slide Projectors & (iii)
Multi-media Projectors. The GUB intends to provide all these
equipments to the classrooms to use advanced teaching technology.
The Multi-media projection system is very convenient for teachers to
prepare lectures at home, present in the class and then transfer to
the students in soft copies, so that they can study these courses at
home using their own computers. These facilities not only encourage
the teachers to present a course in a planned manner but also to
induce in students to learn in a well planned manner. Moreover, the
students will learn the advanced technologies for teaching as well
as for learning.
Highly-competitive fee structure
The tuition fees of GUB courses will be seen highly
competitive and affordable when compared with what is being offered
by similar other universities. We encourage students of all levels
of income groups to expose their potentiality, upgrade human quality
and professional skills. Considering the country-wide low income
situation, continuous attempts have been made to keep the tuition
fee within the affordable range of the parents.
Course
Quality/ Internationally Recognized Programs
The Syllabus of GUB academic programs have been designed by
competent and experienced academics to provide sound theoretical and
practical knowledge on Business, Commerce, Computer Science,
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Textile Engineering and
Technology, English Law and many other job-oriented subjects. At the
same time it gives equal emphasis on the national heritage and
ethical, spiritual and social values.
Personal Touch and Attention
We assist our
students to succeed. At GUB classes consists of small groups. This
provides students with maximum opportunity for individual guidance
by teachers. Small class size encourages participation and develops
student confidence, the result is a strong foundation for university
study, with its emphasis on individual initiative. Counselor
monitors individual student’s overall welfare and assists with their
academic development, guiding them towards excellence in academic
performance. In addition students finding difficulty in a particular
subject can receive one-to-one tuition free of charge. Staffs are
concerned with the overall welfare of each student.
Job Placement
Services
GUB operates a
‘Placement Office’ for the benefit of its students and their
prospective employers. The placement service includes interaction of
the graduates with prospective employers in seminars, symposia and
excursion visits to discuss mutual interests. The ‘Placement Office’
maintains records of the graduating students of the university
including their KSA profiles and these records are made available to
the prospective employers for the purpose.
Higher Study Contact Facility
GUB provides
higher study contact facilities for the benefit of its students and
their prospective future life. This service of the University
arranges financial assistances and guides them for higher study
abroad. The University has a number of scholarships, stipends,
assistance-ships for the deserving students, sponsored by benevolent
persons of the society.
Credit
Transfer and Exchange Programs
GUB has a plan to
develop exchange programs with recent air leading universities in
North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Egypt,
Spain and The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Such programs will facilitate
the exchange of Faculty Members and students. In addition to
receiving teaching services of overseas Faculty Members, the
students might get admission for higher education to those
universities through credit transfer and get employment
opportunities abroad subsequently. GUB has the provision of
accepting students from other recognized universities for admission
both at graduate and undergraduate levels through credit transfer.
Scholarship/ Financial Assistance
Aiming at catering excellent education, the GUB clearly
visualizes that quality students (inputs) blended with quality
teaching is a prerequisite. So it offers a significant number of
scholarships and tuition waivers (full/partial) to attract the
meritorious as well as needy students.
Special Language Program
To cope with
demand of English language proficiency, the University offers a
separate Basic English Development Course for all the students. It
is designed for the fresher for educational and conversational
purposes. It is an intensive course before entering into the
respective academic programs of study which will enable students to
pursue the academic course smoothly. The language program is offered
to meet the practical demand of the students to make them capable of
speaking and writing English for academic and communicative
purposes.
Student Advising
All students
entering GUB as freshmen are assigned to an academic advisor who
will be responsible for guiding and helping them on various academic
matters including selection of courses, choice of major subjects,
career planning and so on throughout the study at GUB. Students will
choose the major of their study in consultation with their advisor.
Internship Program
In order to develop practical awareness about the office
management and industrial systems, the students are attached with
various organizations by the University for stipulated period with a
definite study objectives. This attachment programs usually be held
at the related industries and other co-companies including banks,
insurance companies, national & multinational companies and NGO’s.
For certain program of study, an industrial tour may also be
arranged.
Computer
Lab
The Computer Lab of Green University of Bangladesh consists
of a large number of computers along with necessary accessories.
This Lab is well equipped and bear high performance computing
facilities. The environment of the lab is comfortable. Students are
allowed to use this lab for all kinds of modern information. We have
a full time skilled Hardware Engineer and a Technician. They are to
provide speedy and effective service to the students of GUB. The
laboratories will be enlarged and developed gradually.
An IT Research Lab with state-of-the-art machinery and
software facilitate the project work of the senior students. The IT
Lab has the state-of-the-art Network, Programming, Database, Basic
Electronics, Digital Electronics and Microprocessor equipments. The
laboratories are designed to expose and train our students with
Windows, Sun Solaris and LINUX, UNIX, MAC operating systems that are
considered to be the most important and fundamental to the
requirements of computer graduates. Students may study B.Sc. in
Computer Science and Engineering or Computer Science and Information
Technology.
Besides the computer lab, the students will have the
opportunity for internet connection to obtain recent information.
Other accessories like machinery equipment, Blank re-writable
CD, Floppy Diskette Facilities, Multimedia Projectors, HP Laser
Printer etc are also available.
Electronics
Lab
The courses on
Communication, Multimedia & Broadcasting have been restructured to
mirror changing trends, enabling students to attain the right mix of
skills they acquire to perform with excellence and thus progress in
their careers.
Our design on
computer laboratories utilizes the latest software and hardware and
providing excellent digital lab facilities to our students. The
current lab setup includes: Micro-Kits (MDA 8068) for microprocessor
based lab equipments, Trainer Board, Digital Multi-Meter,
Oscilloscope, Bread Board, Mini-Drill, Logic Probe, Logic Pulsar,
Lot of ICs, IC Testers, Interfacing Adapters and other supporting
peripherals. Students are allowed to cope with the up-to-date
knowledge and techniques. The university maintains a strong
commitment to innovative programs in Information & Communication
Technology. Areas of research include communication systems,
network, signal processing, distributed computing, software
engineering, radar system, sonar system, computer vision, artificial
neural networks and image processing, very large scale integration
(VLSI) design, target tracking & recognition, multimedia information
services, UHF, microwave and antenna engineering. Students use the
latest equipment from digital cameras to computer based editing &
broadcasting system.
Sophisticated
facilities are the key to effective learning to be in line with the
ascending trade of technology. It is important that the student is
not too far behind in the acquisition of technical skill and is able
to upgrade knowledge smoothly.
Library and Resources Center
Green University of Bangladesh has excellent, state-of-the-art
multimedia facilities. Students have access to library,
photocopying, word-processing, printing services. GUB Library makes
available the prescribed texts and references for each subject, as
well as additional resources.
Material is
available for loan as well as reference purposes. Private study
areas are available. GUB provides access to the appropriate software
required to ensure successful learning outcomes in each subject.
Library is in the 4th floor of the University Building of
GUB. It has a user-friendly open-stack easy access system. The
library provides up-to-date information to students, researchers and
teachers.
Green
University has a rich library equipped with a variety of books on
the academic programs offered as well as on research and
extra-curricular activities on different topics and events. GUB has
a good collection of books and journals at the Library.
The library
resources cover many discipline, such as business, law, management,
computer science, economics, environmental studies, english language
and literature, history, culture, information technology,
psychology, religion, sociology, mathematics, statistics,
engineering, architecture, etc. The total number of books are
increasing everyday. The GUB library subscribes substantial number
of daily newspapers, magazines, fortnightly, and research journals.
Different titles of news-clippings on current subjects related to
the curricula as well as socio-economic aspects, national and
international affairs will also be readily available for keeping the
readers up-dated.
The library
will have a seating capacity of 80 students and shelf space of over
10,000 volumes. It has separate reference and journals sections,
which is one of the most up-to-date library in the country.
GUB is going
to be a member of JSTOR on-line Archive (www.jstor.org).
JSTOR is an organization committed to the electronic archiving of
scholarly journals and literature. Computers, which provide on-line
access to internet, are also located in the library. The Library has
a wide range of books, research titles and periodicals on various
subjects, a vast supply of videotapes, newspapers, magazines and
journals. Arrangements for viewing video films on various subjects
are also provided. The Library functions throughout the year and
offers a silent, disciplined and learning atmosphere. This wide
range of database resources which meets the needs of the students
and academicians is managed by a professionally qualified librarian.
STUDY TOUR
Students have the
opportunity to participate in study tour programs. The University
places a strong emphasis on student’s directly experiencing works of
art. It is also crucial to experience art produced in other parts of
Bangladesh as well as overseas. For this reason the University
undertakes regular study tours that aim to extend the breadth of
knowledge about art and the contexts in which it is produced. |
